Sea plantain, sea milkwort and lesser sea-spurrey all grow a few miles east of Stafford, which is a long way inland for any of them. Pasturefields is the only known natural inland salt meadow left in the United Kingdom. Salt water comes up through the ground there, two old brine wells sit on the site, and the eight hectares are both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
