About Yorkshire Garden Designer
Yorkshire Garden Designer is a garden design business run by Sally Tierney in York. Sally has been designing private gardens in Yorkshire since 1997 and holds a Chelsea Silver-Gilt Medal and two consecutive Harrogate Flower Show Gold Medals. She is a Registered Member of the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers and a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture. Sally trained through an apprenticeship with English Heritage and holds a BSc (Hons).
Sally designs gardens around the time clients actually have, working with soil, light and the reality of their lives. Every design is drawn by hand, line by line, with each garden shaped entirely around the client's plot and how they live. She starts each project with a consultation to understand how the garden will be used, how much maintenance is wanted, and what success looks like in three years. The depth of borders, choice of materials and plant selection all follow from these answers.
Three design packages are offered. Bronze covers layout, levels, surfaces, boundaries and materials, from £2,000 plus VAT. Silver adds a detailed planting plan chosen for the client's soil, light and lifestyle, from £3,000 plus VAT. Gold includes design, planting plan, plant sourcing and on-site planting supervision, from £6,000 plus VAT. A garden consultation costs £300 plus VAT. Sally also designs standalone planting plans for existing gardens and visits during builds to supervise the design. Gardens are designed to support wildlife alongside being enjoyable and manageable to look after.
