Which way a slope faces does more in this city than people allow for. The rock garden at Fletcher Moss in Didsbury is cut into a south facing bank with shelter behind it, and plants that are not reliably hardy get through the winter in it. Chusan palms, a tulip tree, swamp cypress and dawn redwood all stand there. It was somebody's private garden until nineteen nineteen, when it was handed to the city.
