The Meadows was wet ground between the Leen and the Trent before it was drained and built over. A large part of it was cleared and put back up in the nineteen seventies on the Radburn model, which keeps cars and people apart on purpose: feeder roads, cul-de-sacs, underpasses, and houses fronting onto a footpath with the parking round the back. That turns the usual boundary question inside out, because the side of the plot the public walks past is the side that is supposed to be private. The city has been undoing it since two thousand and nine and putting ordinary streets back.
