How much does artificial grass cost?
£50 to £90 per square metre installed is the 2026 range across most of the UK, rising to £65 to £110 in London and the South East. Fifty square metres therefore lands at £2,500 to £4,500, or £3,250 to £5,500 on London rates.

Sub-base depth and waste removal separate a £45 per square metre quote from a £75 one. Ask how deep they are digging and who is taking the old turf away, because both cost real money and neither is visible afterwards.
What moves the price
- Turf grade, £15 per square metre for budget pile against £45 or more for premium.
- Excavation depth, which doubles on clay or badly draining ground.
- Spoil volume, at £200 to £350 a skip or grab load.
- Shape, because curves, borders and tree rings mean more cutting and more joins.
- Region, with London and the South East 15 to 30 per cent above the North, Wales and Scotland.

How long does artificial grass last?
Ten to fifteen years for mid range and premium turf on a properly built base. Pile flattening along traffic routes is the usual first sign of wear, and brushing every few months slows it down. Cheap turf at £5 to £10 per square metre supplied shows matting in three to four years.
Can artificial grass go over an existing lawn?
Turf laid straight over living grass fails. Grass and topsoil rot down beneath the membrane, the surface dips, and worms and moles carry on working below it. Turf and 75mm to 100mm of soil come out first, and that is the part costing money.
