MJ Findlay Tree Surgery

About MJ Findlay Tree Surgery

MJ Findlay Tree Surgery is a tree surgery business in Aberdeen run by Martin Findlay, with younger brother Stewart and other trained associates. The business carries out crown reduction, crown thinning, pollarding, tree removal and felling, stump grinding and hedge trimming for domestic gardens and country estates.

Crown reduction removes excessive foliage to let light into gardens and homes, and reduces weight from overloaded branches. Crown thinning removes dead wood and rubbing branches to allow light through the canopy and reduce wind resistance. Pollarding involves hard pruning to control size in urban settings. Tree removal is undertaken when a tree is dead, dying or structurally compromised, or when it was planted in the wrong place and causes excessive shading. Dismantling is carried out piece by piece using ropes and harnesses to prevent damage to nearby property. Stump grinding takes stumps below ground level so gardens can be landscaped over them. Hedge trimming removes one year's growth to encourage thickening.

Work begins with a site visit followed by a written quote. Once accepted, a date is agreed and the work is carried out by Martin and Stewart or their associates. All debris is removed and the site is left tidy. MJ Findlay Tree Surgery started in 2017 and holds arboricultural public liability insurance to £5m. All team members hold NPTC City and Guilds qualifications, and work is carried out to British Standard BS3998. Climbing and rigging equipment is LOLER inspected every six months.
