A demountable barrier goes up across the A44 at Hylton Road when the Severn rises, and in February twenty twenty the Environment Agency put it up twice inside a fortnight. The river reached five point seven nine metres on the Worcester gauge that month, the highest since the gauge was installed in two thousand and five, and it stopped half a metre short of the top of the barrier.
