About Woodgates Trees

Woodgates Trees is a tree surgery business in Plymouth run by Phillip Woodgate. The business carries out tree removal, crown reduction, crown thinning, crown lifting, dead wooding, crown cleaning, aerial tree inspections, ivy removal and woodland management. Hedge cutting and garden clearance services are also offered, including stump removal to allow for replanting or garden paths.

Phillip Woodgate studied Arboriculture at Merrist Wood College in 2003 and achieved a National Certificate in merit. He holds City and Guilds NPTC qualifications in chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting, felling small trees, climbing trees and performing aerial rescue, and chainsaw use in a tree. Woodgates Trees was founded in 2015. The team includes Simon Reckless, who has worked with the business since it was founded and holds City and Guilds NPTC qualification in using a brushwood chipper, plus groundsmen Kevin Smith and David Moreton, and administrator Becky Reckless.

All work is carried out to BS3998 by fully insured and fully qualified and experienced arborists. The business works in a considerate manner, thinking about how work affects other people and the environment. Crown reduction is used as a way of retaining trees rather than felling them, changing areas from complete darkness to an abundance of natural light while retaining the tree's natural shape. For tree removal where sheds, greenhouses or roofs are underneath, ropes are used to ensure the protection of property. The business covers Plymouth and surrounding areas.
