Doxey Marshes is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and it begins a short walk from the middle of Stafford, which very few towns can say. It is wet grassland on the Sow flood plain, notified for its lapwing, snipe and redshank, and it holds the biggest area of reed sweet-grass in the Midlands. Gardens along that edge are sitting on the same water, and a shrub put into a hole that will not empty there is being planted in a pond.
