The lakes in Walsall Arboretum were never dug for the view. They are lime workings that filled up when the water beat the pumps in the eighteen thirties, and the rise and fall of the ground across the park is what the quarrying left rather than what anybody drew. Reynold's Hall stood on that land until it was pulled down to get at the limestone underneath it.
