About Laycock Firewood & Tree Experts
Laycock Firewood & Tree Experts is a family-run tree surgery and forestry business based in York. It removes and dismantles trees, carries out crown reductions, pruning, pollarding and deadwooding, cuts and reduces hedges, grinds stumps, and supplies kiln-dried hardwood logs for wood burners and stoves. The business also undertakes forestry work including woodland thinning, timber extraction, ash dieback removal and forest clearances.
The business serves York, North Yorkshire and surrounding villages including Acomb, Strensall, Bishopthorpe, Haxby, Poppleton, Easingwold, Thirsk, Sheriff Hutton and Wetherby. It works for domestic customers, commercial clients, schools, academies, insurance companies, estates and landowners. Tree pruning and deadwooding are carried out to BS 3998:2010 standards by fully qualified arborists. The business manages Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas, handling all required applications and paperwork. Stump grinding is done with small and large grinders to eliminate trip hazards and prepare land for landscaping or construction.
Laycock Firewood & Tree Experts was founded by Ryan Laycock after he recognised demand for kiln-dried firewood in York. The business is fully insured and holds PA1 and PA6 qualifications for spraying and pesticide treatments. It uses tree surgery equipment including large rigging and lowering systems, and operates low-impact forestry machinery to minimise ground damage on hillsides and sensitive areas. Kiln-dried logs are sourced through sustainable forestry practices and dried to below 20% moisture content. The business has won the Tree Surgeons of the Year award three times.
