Kings Norton was a Worcestershire parish until nineteen eleven, when the Birmingham Extension Act took the greater part of it into the city. It ran to close on twelve thousand acres, and when the ground was counted in nineteen hundred and one, two thirds of that was pasture and about a tenth arable. The Green is still open, with the church at the north west corner of it, the Old Grammar School alongside and the Saracen's Head across the way. This end of Birmingham was grass being grazed a lifetime before it was gardens.
