About Kate Luby Garden Design

Kate Luby Garden Design is a garden design business based in Barnet. It creates gardens through a collaborative design process, starting with a site visit to measure the house and garden, analyse the soil, and look at how the sun moves across the space. The business then works with clients through concept drawings and meetings to develop a final scaled plan ready for landscapers to build.

The services offered are full garden design from survey to planting in, planting plans for gardens already built or to refresh borders, and consultancy charged at an hourly rate for a second opinion or design of a small area such as a pergola or seating space. Kate specialises in designing spaces that are considerate to environmental impact, including planting to encourage wildlife and reduce water use, hard landscaping that supports natural drainage, and working with like-minded landscapers, gardeners and suppliers.

For full designs, the process includes a site visit and survey, two in-person meetings to discuss how the garden will be used and to agree a final layout, concept drawings, and a final digital plan. A planting plan follows, with a list of trees, shrubs and plants, quantities and a rough quote from suppliers. Kate offers a 10% discount on plants sourced through large reputable nurseries, and arranges single deliveries to reduce overall cost. On planting day, the area is prepared, the delivery is checked, plants are laid out according to the plan, planted, watered and mulched in, and the garden is tidied.
