There is sand under Aldridge, at the eastern edge of the borough, and it has been dug there for building work for a long time. It comes from the Kidderminster Formation, and when the British Geological Survey last mapped the county's minerals the only two pits working that rock anywhere in the West Midlands were both inside Walsall. The sand in the concrete round a post here stands a fair chance of having come out of the ground a few miles up the road.
