Tettenhall is one of very few places in England to have two village greens, an Upper and a Lower, and both are still open ground. The council's historic landscape mapping has the Upper Green down as surviving from the old settlement, never taken in when the heath round it went. Houses along that edge have a front boundary with nobody on the other side of it, which is not the same job as a fence run between two gardens.
