How much does grass cutting cost?
£20 to £45 buys a regular cut across most of Britain, rising to £30 to £60 in London and the South East. Hourly rates sit between £20 and £45, with London gardeners charging £3 to £10 more an hour than the national figure. Larger jobs work out at £0.30 to £2 a square metre.

Disposal is the line that vanishes from a cheap quote. Somebody who bins your clippings pays a commercial gate fee for them, so £25 a cut with the waste gone is not the same job as £25 a cut with two bags left beside the shed.
What moves the price
- Lawn area sets the mowing time, though minimum call-out charges flatten the difference below about 50 square metres.
- Visit frequency counts for more than size, since grass cut weekly goes through a mower faster than grass left a month.
- Access through a narrow side gate rules out a ride-on and adds barrow trips to every load.
- Clippings left on the lawn cost nothing, while bagging and tipping them adds £10 to £25.
- Postcode, with London rates running £3 to £10 an hour above the rest of the country.
Worth knowing
A council green bin subscription runs about £35 to £90 a year, which for a small garden is usually cheaper than paying for removal visit by visit. It is worth checking before booking a clearance.

Why does a small lawn cost nearly as much as a bigger one?
Minimum call-out charges. Travel, unloading and setting up take the same twenty minutes whatever the lawn measures. Most rounds set a floor around £20 to £25, so anything under roughly 50 square metres lands on that floor.
What does the first cut of the year cost?
£90 to £200 outside London where grass has stood since autumn, and £130 to £300 inside it. Long grass has to be reduced in stages, raked and carted off. That is why it is priced as a one-off job rather than as a visit.
